HOUSE COLLAPSE IN HIMACHAL PRADESH

Flash floods have washed away several sections of the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway, causing traffic closures in the Kullu area. This morning, a building collapse occurred at Shat Sabji Mandi in Manikaran, with the rushing Parvati River carrying the building away.

Following an emergency meeting in Shimla to assess the current situation, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “As of now, about 50 people are missing and two have died due to the cloudburst in the Kullu, Shimla, and Mandi districts that occurred around 4 AM. Specifically, about 35 people are missing in Rampur in Shimla, nine in Mandi, and one in Kullu.” Additionally, water overflow has damaged the Mallan Dam. While Manali remains isolated from the rest of the nation, travelers can only reach as far as Kullu, where flooding has destroyed roads in numerous locations. Authorities have warned people to stay away from waterways and issued advisories for the affected districts. SDMs, police, and deputy commissioners are actively involved in the response efforts.

The authorities have ordered the air force and army to remain on standby.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “I have spoken with Home Minister Amit Shah, and he has assured me that all assistance will be provided. In addition to Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, we are dispatching two more NDRF teams to the state.” He also mentioned that he had discussed the situation with Health Minister JP Nadda.
